Health And Fitness Paradigms – Who Do You Believe?

I have always had an interest in trying to understand how the human body works and how to train optimally with the minimum amount of time and effort being spent. Much of my spare time is spent attending numerous conferences and workshops, doing online courses, and reading every book I can get my hands on related to research, and educated peoples opinions on what they consider affects human physiology. However, whenever I do read books or attend seminars I never take for granted that what the author/presenter is saying is in fact correct – very few guidelines in the health and fitness realm are scientifically proven facts – they are, for the most part, educated guesses with many of them being proven wrong or misleading over time. The “diet” industry is a prime example of this, as is the never-ending succession of fitness fads that come and go. It’s true to say that “best practices” – as defined by the tried and true ways of doing things – often become conventional wisdom, and conventional wisdom is often wrong. Many studies that at face value seem to have undeniable results that agree with the intended hypothesis, in reality have not considered many other variables that can be involved in a “cause and effect” scenario. Neuroscience experts are now finding that there is more and more evidence to suggest that it is more likely that humans are actually “causing an effect”.Studies on the placebo effect – whereby our mind can cause an effect on our body purely by thinking that something is going to have a certain effect on us – have shown that this phenomenon absolutely exists. This fact opens up wide-ranging implications on how we have the ability to control what our body does just by “believing” that it can do whatever we focus our attention on. But there’s an important clarification to make here – I didn’t say that we just have to “THINK” about what we want our body to do but rather “BELIEVE” that it can do it. Thinking about it, or wanting it to happen, is totally different to actually believing it can happen.I recently attended a fitness industry conference and one of the presenters was a very well respected dietitian and health industry educator, who I greatly admired for his excellent presenter skills and in-depth knowledge on nutrition. I particularly wanted to see his presentation on ‘The Paleolithic (or commonly referred to as The Paleo) Diet’” and hear what he had to say about it. While I had never actually read any specific books on The Paleo Diet I was aware that it was loosely referred to as the “Caveman Diet” because it preached following a diet of all natural foods with no processed, or chemically or genetically modified foods, which I strongly agree with and it’s basically the foundation principles of my lifelong eating regime. If I can just diverge for a moment here – by “eating regime” I mean what commonly used to be regarded as “diet”, in the proper sense of the word, but in the 20th Century the word “diet” developed the connotation of being a restrictive eating plan that you had to follow rigidly.Wikipedia gives the meaning of the word “diet” as being the sum of the food consumed by an organism or group, and “dieting” as being the deliberate selection of food to control body weight or nutrient intake and “diet food” as being foods that aid in dieting, but despite this text book nomenclature, the word “diet” these days is virtually only recognized as referring to a food restriction plan and this is why I never use the word in conversation about my own eating habits. Now, to get back to the Paleo Diet seminar… I arrived late to the event so missed the start of the presentation but as I walked into the room I was surprised to hear one of the conference delegates (all of whom were Personal Trainers) ask the question of the presenter about should we be eating apples because they wouldn’t have been around in Caveman days? I was quite surprised and thought it was a pretty stupid question because surely the Caveman Diet was just figuratively speaking and didn’t literally mean what the caveman ate but that we should follow their lead in eating only fresh and natural foods. Well, as if the question didn’t surprise me enough the answer totally floored me! The presenter went on to explain that although there may not have been apples in the Caveman times they would still be OK to eat. He continued to explain in detail what exactly the caveman would have had access to and that’s what we should also be trying to eat. And then he made the comment that had me wondering why we should ever NOT doubt anything we hear “experts” say when he added that “of course, the Cavemen had an average lifespan of only 30 years”… what??? Why on Earth then are we being told we should eat like the Caveman when he only lived to be 30 years old???Now no one is saying that it was their diet that prevented them from living past 30 years of age but even so, how can we draw any conclusions on the success of their diet when we have absolutely no evidence of the benefits of their diet on their health? The even-more horrifying part was that all the Personal Trainers in the room were nodding in agreement and writing down notes as if they accepted every word he was saying because, being the expert that he was, he should know! Was I the only person in the room – or in the world! – who recognizes that (as I mentioned a little earlier) “conventional wisdom is often wrong”?Am I the only Personal Trainer who goes to seminars and questions the validity of things I am being lectured about with a healthy dose of skepticism until I can prove it to be true?Personal Trainers, as like all professional people, attend conferences and seminars to further their knowledge in their given field of expertise and they then use this newly acquired knowledge to pass onto the people who rely on them (and pay them!) for guidance and instruction in that particular field of expertise. My biggest problem with this is that if conventional wisdom is often wrong then who are the masses to believe if their teachers are accepting, without question, what they are themselves being taught?I recently came across an article written by a world renowned heart surgeon with 25 years experience and having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries who admitted that he had trained for many years with other prominent physicians labeled “opinion makers.” Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, these opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol. The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course they insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. But he now concedes that this is not working. These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall, and not blood cholesterol levels, is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated. Now, if world-renowned heart surgeons can get it wrong what hope have the rest of us got in knowing whose advice to follow?I also have a personal favorite anecdote from my time working in the fitness industry when the gym I was working at had a weight control program that people could pay to do. This was in the late 1990′s when the idea of fats being bad for you was beginning to take acceptance. I remember the woman who led the group stating that it was perfectly OK to eat Macca’s Hotcakes so long as you didn’t have the whipped butter with it. The highly processed pancakes and maple syrup were perfectly fine to consume so long as you didn’t go over your calorie allowance for the day. It was the “conventional wisdom” of the day that only fat was bad for you and that sugars and highly processed foods were totally harmless. This is the age old dilemma that mankind has faced in relation to health and fitness education. With so much of the advice we are given, it is impossible to know if it is accurate or just another misguided fad that society will eventually supersede with something better, cheaper, easier or just more interesting and harder to dis-prove “conventional wisdom”.Unfortunately, for the average man on the street, there is no easy solution to this age-old problem. My solution to the problem has been to spend my entire adult life researching the subjects that I feel passionate about and that is: “how my body functions and what can I do to optimize its performance”. Because most people don’t have the time or inclination to devote their life to this cause they rely on the “experts” to give them guidance but unfortunately we have seen that this method seems to provide only hit and miss solutions. For too long people have been misled to believe that they have no control over what their inherited genes can do.We need to learn more about our body and how the human race has got itself into the predicament it has – how we got to the point where BILLIONS of people world-wide are not just overweight but obese, and over 40 million children under the age of five are overweight. And despite the recognition of the problem, the world continues to put on weight and governments continue to ignore the real causes, which are:· Ever-increasing numbers of fast-food outlets supplying the population with nutrition deficient junk food.· The most notorious outlets providing bigger and bigger portion sizes – “upsizing”.· Supermarket aisles full of absolutely unnecessary and highly addictive bad food choices, i.e. soft drinks/sodas, potato crisps, biscuits, candy, highly processed packaged food, etc. Three quarters of the aisles at supermarkets are totally unnecessary to the survival of man and do nothing but tempt people who either don’t know any better or choose to ignore the health warnings.· School canteens providing all the above ‘food’ items to school children – what child will have a drink of water if they can get a can of Coke?· Major sporting events world wide being sponsored by junk food/drink companies.I’m sure you can start to see the underlying problem now – the GDP of the modern world relies on the profit from these products. Do you think the Olympics would ever be sponsored by a fresh food co-op or the Australian beef industry? Not a chance! The “REAL FOOD” suppliers don’t make anywhere near the profits that the junk food/drink industry make. What a deadly vicious cycle we have created – all the world’s major sporting events are sponsored by the world’s worst influences on mankind. It wasn’t that long ago that the sporting worlds biggest sponsors were the tobacco companies – I think we’ve gone from bad to equally as bad, or even worse! The problem has gone way beyond any chances of government policies being able to make a difference. Money, power and corruption are now – as they always have been – what rule many of the worlds government policies, not only in the developed world but even more so in the undeveloped nations. There’s a reason why there are so many anti-corruption agencies around the world! Governments just can’t ignore the trillions of dollars that these lifestyle products supply to the economy of the world today. The reality is that the health of you and your family rests squarely on your shoulders – don’t be naïve enough to think that the government would – or should – control what goes into your mouth. We can only blame the governments for letting these products be supplied – not of making us buy them! Only YOU can make the choice of either buying healthy or unhealthy food – there’s no one to blame but yourself for your lack of willpower. Just because these items are available doesn’t mean you have to buy them. People are kidding themselves if they think that anything but wholesome food is a necessary item in the supermarket trolley. You alone are responsible for what goes into your mouth.

Creating A Positive Learning Environment For Foster And Adoptive Children In The Classroom

Nine years ago I found myself in a difficult situation when it came to completing a homework assignment with a foster child who was living in my home. The homework assignment was to fill in a family tree. Sounds easy, right? Well, in this case, there were a variety of reasons that prevented us from filling in that tree. The main reason was due to the lack of information we had on the biological family. The assignment was returned incomplete with an explanation and request for modifying it so we could complete it. After a lengthy discussion with the teacher, the requested modifications were made and the assignment was completed. However, the public humiliation could not be erased, and the positive learning environment for the foster child had been compromised. The recollection of this experience came to me as I was searching through my daughter’s homework folder for the first time. I began wondering how we would handle this assignment with her first grade teacher. My daughter was adopted at birth; and has known from an early age as to how we became a family. For her to complete a family tree assignment, she would need a tree with branches AND roots. A family tree that diagrams the birth and adoptive families she has come to know and love. For other children like my foster child and those who do not have much information about their biological families, it may be a tree with one branch and some leaves. The assignment should be modified in a way that gives them an opportunity to successfully complete it without public humiliation from class mates and the receipt of an incomplete grade. My wondering led me to researching and compiling a list of useful tips and resources parents can share with teachers and school staff to create a positive learning environment for foster and adoptive children in the classroom when it comes to similar assignments.Talk to the teacher about your foster care or adopted child before the new school year starts. Keep in mind that this is private information, and sharing may be difficult for you. The discussion can be as simple as revealing nothing more than the child is in a foster care placement, or has been adopted by you. Share what ever you think will create a positive learning environment for the child.Provide a list of organizations that focus on foster care and adoption. The following are organizations that I have found to be helpful in educating family, friends, and teacher about the unique way we became a family. The Center for Adoption Support and Education, Inc. (C.A.S.E.) is a private, non-profit adoptive family support center that offers workshops on how to address the sensitivity that surrounds families who were created through the unique process of foster care and adoption.National Foster Parent Association (NFPA) supports foster care children and families across the United States through a network of affiliates, as well as providing educational resources that are available on their website at http://www.NFPAinc.org.Adoptive Families Magazine provides several widely used guides and resources in their monthly newsstand and online issues for adoptive families and teachers that can easily be modified for use by foster care families.Donate books about foster care and adoption to the classroom or school library. Offer to read a book from that collection to your child’s class as a way to help the teacher introduce foster care and adoption. In addition to traditional bookstores, foster care and adoption books can be purchased through Tapestry Books, an online bookstore specializing in foster care and adoption titles at http://www.tapestrybooks.comWork with the school principle or counselor to coordinate an in-service training session that focuses on foster care and adoption for teachers and other staff members. According to Celebrate Adoption, a non-profit education organization, 1 out of 63 children in the United States are adopted. Educating others about foster care and adoption increases the acceptance of these children in our classrooms and awareness of the sensitivity surrounding their family history as it relates to the school curriculum.By following the tips and using the resources provided in this article, you will not only be able to create a positive learning environment for the foster or adopted child placed in your care, but also for those who will enter a classroom in the future.Reference: The Institute for Adoption Information, Inc. Upgrade Your WordPress Through A Blog Manager Software – 3 Major Benefits

Updating your WordPress blog has now become easier when using WordPress Manager to get the job done. As we all know, WordPress is one of the world’s most used software platforms when it comes to blogging and web design. However, WordPress is still constantly evolving and thus requires a frequent update once a new version of the software is released. And because of it, you would require an effective system to update and also upgrade all of the WordPress blogs that can still be user-friendly as well. That is one of the main things that a WordPress Manager is capable of doing. But before we go further into this particular feature of the program, let’s first find out what exactly a WordPress Manager is.First and foremost a WordPress Manager is a blog management that can manage all of the blogs in your blog network that use WordPress as a software platform. Furthermore, this program has the ability to assist you in creating and managing of the domains you plan on using for your blogs as well as the capacity to help you to create, upload and manage the contents for those domains. These are collectively called as domain management and content management features. Now there are also a bunch of other features that you will find useful in a WordPress Manager that can help you manage your blogs in a more effective manner. One such feature is its ability to conveniently upgrade all of your blogs to the most recent version of WordPress with just a click of a mouse button. This has several main benefits to it.Those Benefits Are:1. Secure Blogs – One of the reasons why the developers over of WordPress have been so diligent in providing improvements to the software is due to the ever-changing nature of the internet and the dangers that come with it. Viruses, worms, trojans and a host of other hostile programs already circulate the World Wide Web and if your WordPress blogs aren’t up to date, you might fall victim to an attack from any of those.2. Hassle Free Management – A WordPress Manager’s centralized management capabilities makes it easier for you to manage everything within your blog network by providing you with instant accessibility to all of your blogs. This is called its one click login feature and removes the many hassles that could arise if you were to manage all of your blogs individually such as having to constantly remember login information.3. Improved Productivity – Since you can now easily manage all of your blogs, you now have additional time to be productive. And because less time is wasted in doing your maintenance work for your blogs, you can easily allocate those spare time for other activities that you do for your blogs such as creating content e.g. articles, videos, blog posts and etc.Take note, that these are just some of the benefits that you’ll be able to get from using this program. In a coming article, we’ll be looking at some of the other features of a WordPress Manager such as a closer look at its centralized WordPress management system.

The 10 Most ANNOYING Marketing Buzzwords

Calling all marketers! Get ready to disrupt (yup, that’s one of them) your digestive tract with marketing clichés that will make you puke. These marketing buzz terms are polluting creative minds everywhere – and there might even be scientific evidence linking these cringe-worthy catchphrases to Millennials’ intense feelings of “I don’t want a desk job”. It’s certainly possible. However, for everyone else, can we make a pact?As fellow marketers and creative professionals, let’s kindly retire (or extinguish) these irritating phrases so we can all evolve past this “noise” cluttering our industry. Are you with me?!1. DisruptionFirst, let’s be clear. “Disruption” is really more of a business term. It describes a market condition that takes place when an existing market collapses and a new one emerges. It’s actually very similar to “Disruptive Innovation” which happens when a new market comes to fruition entirely. Uber might be a great example of both – depending on how you look at it.However, when this “Wall Street” phrase ended up leaking all over Madison Avenue, “disruption” and “disruptive” became overly used, watered down terms that essentially started to mean nothing.Certainly “Creative Disruption”, might have a place, as it refers to exposing business model flaws and promoting big changes in consumer behaviour (in the creative sense). However, I can’t help but wonder whether some Agency Account Director just throws out “disruptive” terms just to win some big account. I mean, come on. Disrupt what? Isn’t it our job as marketers to change consumer habits and get noticed?2. Growth hackingOkay, I realize that “hacking” is supposed to mean “coding” in this sense (not cutting down), but this phrase sure does sound like an oxymoron to me!Popularized by Sean Ellis and other techies in the early 2000s, the term was meant to describe non-traditional ways to achieve growth through experimental marketing strategies and emerging technologies. READ: this is also a glorified way of describing underpaid “bootstrappers” (oh, but with equity of course!) trying to unlock the key to “crowd culture” (yawn).Perhaps growth-hacking was a relevant, meaningful term 15 years ago, but not today. Most marketers are expected to (magically) achieve growth with technological brilliance and creativity because it’s our job. Sound like a lot of pressure? Well, welcome to marketing.3. SoLoMoOh no-no. If your ears have not been scarred yet by this irritating term (in what seems like “slow-mo”), it means “Social-Local-Mobile” as if this is some genius concept or secret to being relevant. So, please, don’t use this catch-phrase. Ever.4. Actionable InsightsActionable? As opposed to “Well, we learned something today, and we’re not going to do anything about it”.I mean, am I missing something? Where does one look for “actionable insights”? Is this something people need in addition to regular insights? For example, if I’m comparing landing page performance in The Marketing Manager, and I see one campaign outperforming the other, I think I know what action to take. Do you?5. Seamless IntegrationIf you work in the tech sector, I bet you are emphatically nodding your head “yes”. This godawful term is about as common and meaningless as your vendor saying “we have an API” when asked “does your product do (xyz)?”.In fact, let’s just throw in some puzzle pieces to truly visually convey (because we’re idiots) that our software seamlessly integrates (puke) with boredom and clichés. After all, we need to “scream” that each piece of our ho-hum app actually functions when interfacing with some other random technology. And while this style of tech marketing seems awfully common (more like ubiquitous), to me, it feels rather ironic. After all, I’m pretty sure that puzzle pieces have jagged, noticeable edges. Don’t they?Besides, there is no such thing as “seamless” integration. It takes work and maintenance for two tools to “talk” to one another – and you (the consumer) get to pay for it. There you have it.6. Turn-key (and everything “key” in general)Let’s face it. If someone offers you a “turn-key”, “off the shelf” solution, does it make you open your wallet? Personally, it makes me turn into a glazed-over zombie. Why? Because even if something is difficult, a brand will either never admit it or up-sell you the “turn-key” solution (rigor mortis setting in).Now of course, I understand that this term was once synonymous with “effortless”. Nevertheless, it has since evolved into a useless adjective that lazy marketers use to describe some blah-blah-blah with blah-blah-blah. That being said, I propose we lock up this useless adjective (pun intended). In fact, as long as we are stuck on cliché doorway analogies, can we please also stop saying [anything]gate to describe a conspiracy theory? Maybe I’m being unreasonable, but I would love it if people could coin something new. After all, the key (cringe) to creative marketing is to explain concepts meaningfully. That’s why “turn-key” is no longer descriptive; tell me WHY something is so effortless – in an engaging, concise way. Does this sound difficult? Well it is. That’s why creative people have jobs.7. Content Is KingYawn. “Content is king” and “(whatever) is queen” sounds like a big, gay party – but everyone’s really bored with it.It’s no mystery. Live sports and fan favorites like “The Walking Dead” keep Cable television in business. After all, those Cable bills are expensive! Perhaps that’s why this cringe-worthy, irritating phrase simply won’t die; decision-makers in the media universe are ignoring the fact that modern consumers are stingy with their time. How else can we explain this endless sea of boring content?Maybe I’m wrong, but here is my understanding of modern consumers (who all have built-in A.D.D)AWESOME content = I will only tolerate ads if they cannot be blocked. And if I really hate ads, I will PAY to have them blocked – so please stop forcing these painful pre-rolls and what feels like 10-minute commercial blocks on me.BORING content = I hate you for wasting my time – also known as “get out of my in-box” syndrome while emphatically clicking “spam”.Assuming that the media gods disagree with me, I believe this painful phrase will continue to exist.8. AdvertainmentSpeaking of “content is crap”, marketers make up stupid terms like “advertainment” to seem like they’re solving some really big cultural problem – but they’re not.”Advertainment” is essentially just an annoying way to explain “branded content”, product placement or flat-up fantastic marketing in disguise. I understand the concept, but here’s the problem: if you call your own work “advertainment”, you sound like a pompous fop.Don’t get me wrong – some marketers have managed to make advertising very entertaining, including Red Bull with their adrenaline junkie videos, and AMC with their Walking Dead and Mad Men apps (also known as “gamification” – which theoretically could make this list).Nevertheless, does “advertainment” really solve a problem? I guess so, but can we please not call it that?In all seriousness though, if you are a marketer that somehow figured out how to move product without annoying people, congrats. This is an achievement. I’m serious.9. Ecosystem (to describe everything)Are we a bunch of ants stuck in a science class diorama demonstrating seamless integration (see term #5 above)? Silicon Valley seems to think so.We hear this word a lot, especially when some “thought leader” (yawn, could also make this list) is ill-prepared to answer a tough question in a meeting.”Well you see [insert CEO name here], our next step towards changing consumer behavior patterns is to move the social conversation to the Internet-of-Things ecosystem,” said the slightly hungover marketing executive recovering from last night’s vendor bender.Look. We’ve all been there, but the use of the word “ecosystem” is starting to feel out of control. Somehow, everything can arguably be an ecosystem, including that Chia Pet they sell in Walmart. Do you see what I mean? Germination. Photosynthesis. Whatever. And it all brings me back to where I started: my seventh-grade science class.10. Snackable ContentDoesn’t this phrase make you want to vomit? Personally, I find it nauseating, but here’s some “food-for-thought”: the term “content consumption” is actually the mothership concept that spawned this ugly-duckling buzz term. All it means is that time-starved consumers prefer concise headlines, bullet points, easy-to-read lists (unlike mine), and pretty much the opposite of heavy, homogenous-looking text. Makes sense.Nonetheless, isn’t it amazing how unappetizing this trite phrase sounds? I actually almost puked (in a good way) when Grant Higginson of Welby Consulting tweeted it to us during our “Tweet the most annoying marketing buzzword to win a drone” contest. Needless to say, he won.

You should always ask permission from your subscribers. If you don’t, you will be violating CAN-SPAM law, and you may also be breaking other laws. This is also a part of your emails, and you should put it on all your emails. That is because, in the United States, CAN-SPAM will penalize you with an $11,000 penalty. This penalty will appear in your income for the previous 2 years. And in Canada, it will penalize you with a $5,000 penalty. And in the previous countries, it has penalized you with a 2,500 penalty. So it is always better to ask permission from your subscribers. The second thing that you should always include in your emails is for them to give up their email addresses. In that way, you will be able to send your emails to only people who have told you they want to receive emails from you. In that way, you will be able to improve your emails to only those people who want to receive emails from you.You do this by getting the subscribers to give up their email addresses. If you ask for permission to send emails to their inbox, they can always unsubscribe. And that way you will be able to better concentrate on your customers who want to receive email marketing promotions.

Short, Intermediate, And Longer – Term Impacts On Home Sales, When Rates Rise!

For many reasons, some, economic, while others, related to the pandemic – related, so – called, fatigue, etc, home prices, in most areas, have gone up, at, or, near, record amounts! Because of the prolonged period of artificially – created, low – interest rates, mortgage rates, have been at historic lows! Since, for most home buyers, using financing is essential to affording a purchase, when a low rate, causes cheap money, and, thus, the ability to afford more home – for – the – buck, prices usually rise! It permits qualified buyers to qualify for more money/ loan, because the ratio of monthly mortgage, to overall income, is artificially – reduced! How long will this trend continue, will it become the new – normal, will previous trends/ cycles return, and how will pricing be affected, in the immediate, intermediate, and longer – run, are, all factors, to consider! With, that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, some possibilities, to consider, and understand.

1. Short – term: Since, the Federal Reserve Bank, announced, they planned to raise rates, three times in 2022 (of course, this was before the potential implications, and ramifications, from the Omicron variant), many feel pressure, to act quickly, to take advantage of today’s low rates, before they go up! Three increases will probably translate to, at least, a 0.75% higher rate, which will translate, for most mortgages, to hundreds of extra dollars, per month. Some things to consider, and pay attention to, is, this rate of increased home prices, will, probably, not continue, especially, at such a large degree! How longer one, expects to keep a specific house, is, one issue, to consider, thoroughly, and wisely, before proceeding!

2. Intermediate – term: Although, many believe, to – know, the precise timing of any projected rate – hike, is uncertain! The Fed has changed, and/ or, altered its strategies and approaches, in the past, What the intermediate – term, may bring, including potential inflationary pressures, how long the economic conditions, and unknown factors, related to the pandemic, etc, will determine, largely, what this phase, may bring! In addition, the attitude, and perceptions of buyers, and their confidence, etc, largely impact this real estate market!

3. Longer – term: In the longer – run, will things, restore, to what we have seen, so often, in the past, which is, alternating cycles, between, Sellers, Buyers, and Neutral Markets? The possibilities, include: a continued large escalation; a more – gradual, but persistent – one; some leveling; and/ or, will we see, at least, in certain areas, some sort of falling prices, for a period.

Affiliate Marketing Coach – Speed Up Your Affiliate Progress With A Coach

An affiliate marketing coach is someone who can help you lift the invisible ceiling which may be holding your affiliate business back. So much in business it is the limits of our thinking which stop us from achieving the things we set out to achieve.

In affiliate marketing this is very much the case. You don’t know what you don’t know! You may even be running down a rabbit hole in the complete wrong direction. I did this for years before finding an affiliate marketing coach who helped me.

Before this point I was trying to do everything alone. Many affiliates are doing the same but don’t realise their actions aren’t aligned with their desired outcomes. For me, I was focusing only on the things I liked to do, not the things which would drive my business forwards.

A clear perspective from a coach who isn’t so myopic in their thinking can change everything. If you keep doing what you’ve always done as an affiliate, your results will likely be the same. But if you’re prepared to step outside your comfort zone, you can make far greater changes in a small amount of time.

Much of affiliate marketing is about trial and error. You try several things and focus on the things which work. This is Pareto’s principle, or the 80:20 rule. But if you have no results to draw from, you could easily be focusing on strategies which will take years to gain any traction.

A few of the small shifts I made in my affiliate marketing endeavours are: shifting to promoting products which offer recurring commissions, I stopped promoting small value, low commission products, and I started using high ticket digital products instead.

These steps alone hugely helped me start generating tactics in my affiliate business. But I also got coaching and mentoring, and decided to take affiliate marketing more seriously. In the beginning, it was just a hobby, and I treated it like a hobby. But if you look at your affiliate business like a hobby, you’ll earn a hobby wage from it. Treat it more seriously, and focus on building a sustainable income which can replace existing work, and you can achieve much more. You get what you focus on!

Goals are useful signposts for affiliates too. For such a long time I was without a rudder as an affiliate. A goal gives you a specific destination you can measure and work towards. If you don’t have either a goal, or a strategy you can stick to with affiliate marketing, it’s easy to lose purpose and drift off in another direction.

When you’re looking for results and don’t have any, it can become completely demoralising! You need to stoke the fire of your own enthusiasm continually or you’re likely to become disillusioned and drop out. This happens to around 95% of affiliate marketers.

But you need to be in the 5% who stick at it and eventually break through and start making consistent sales. When this occurs will depend on the actions you take and how long you keep going for. If something isn’t working, try something else. Focus on the small wins like a hit on a website, or an email lead. Keep your enthusiasm high and you’ll be able to surmount the obstacles which come with the territory. But if you allow yourself to become dissatisfied, it’s much more difficult to keep going.

Affiliate marketing isn’t easy. It’s performance related which means that if you don’t make a sale, you don’t make any money. This is tough in the beginning because you can do a lot of activity which is unrewarded. But once you make a sale, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel. This is the goal of many new affiliate marketers – to make their first sale.

Once you have some positive feedback in terms of success, you can focus on the activities which brought it about. But until this happens, you very much need to trust the process. If you’re also paying a membership fee while this is happening, there can come a point where you decide it’s simply not working! This is common, and people drop out. But if you have a coach you can trust, things are so much more sustainable.

An affiliate marketing coach can help you overcome negativity, indecision, hesitancy and self belief issues. A coach can help you see things in a different light and to notice limitations in your thinking.

For me this has been a complete game changer, and not just for affiliate marketing. When you notice your own self talk is talking away your success and happiness, you realise you are the creator of your own outcomes. As you remember to change your self talk and thinking habits, you realise without belief there is no action. So belief is everything.

The person we listen to more than anyone else in life is ourselves. We talk to ourselves in our head constantly. Re reaffirm what we think and believe about ourselves continually. If we can learn to tap into this power, and start giving ourselves more positive commands, then we can grow both personally and professionally in a much more congruent way than simply through thinking, planning and attempting things in only the physical aspect of our affiliate business.

Why Business Owners Seek to Enter Foreign Markets

It is no longer news that business investors from around the world look at entering foreign markets in order to expand their local business operations or diversify their investments and establish new operations in the international market.

Every year, hundreds of entrepreneurial and growing companies consider international expansion as a marketing and growth strategy.

If you have been successful in your business for some time and you have already mastered everything about running a business, overseas expansion may just be the logical next move you have to make.

On the flip side, for a majority of others, just having an overseas registered company and business address makes more sense to them than moving over to these foreign countries to establish a brick-and-mortar office.

Whichever the case is, there are at least 7 reasons entrepreneurs incorporate an overseas company, subsidiary or a representative office.

1. EXPANSION. About 95% of the world’s consumer’s reside outside Nigeria. Entrepreneurs whose vision and target market is a global one would consider to enter new markets abroad thus increasing their company’s overall market share and growth potentials.

2. POSSIBLE UNTAPPED MARKET. The possibility of an untapped market in foreign jurisdictions may motivate a Nigerian entrepreneur to incorporate an overseas company, subsidiary or representative office of his/her local company. Nigerian entrepreneurs who produce and package local foodstuffs for sale abroad fall into this category.

3. PROXIMITY TO INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS/CUSTOMERS. Truth be told, the Internet hs done enough to bring businesses closer to buyers. However, for some reasons, several business transactions may still warrant a traditional business presence in the city or country of operation. An overseas office of a local company need not be that big, and may be a home business address, a paid virtual office, or a small/liaison office just for the sake of getting customer feedback and linking back to the Nigerian office.

4. CORPORATE IMAGE. In order to boost their corporate image in the eyes of customers, suppliers, investors and businesses, some entrepreneurs just register an overseas subsidiary of their Nigerian company. This gives their target audience an impression that they are a company with international networks. In situations like this, the “international entrepreneur” need not set up a brick-and-mortar office abroad, he/she only pays for a virtual registered office in such country plus a mailing and telephone forwarding service.

5. COMPETITION. The fact that competing businesses or brands are entering the overseas market and are doing well motivates entrepreneurs in similar businesses to follow suit.

6. INTERNATIONAL PAYMENT. There are quite a number of international banking options available to companies registered in overseas jurisdictions – whether you are currently established in the overseas country or operating the overseas company from Nigeria. Having a corporate checking account abroad makes international payment much more easier by direct deposits, cheque or international wire transfers.

7. MIGRATION. Entrepreneurs considering a migration or move to an overseas country may incorporate a company in the destination country pending the time of their travel.

The United Kingdom, for instance, grants an Entrepreneur Visa to persons outside the European Union to gain entry to the UK for business reasons.
